Year 6
In Year 6, children grow as confident, independent, and reflective learners, ready to embrace new challenges and prepare for the next stage of their journey. Through faith, curiosity, and perseverance, they are encouraged to achieve their full potential.
Welcome to Year 6
Mrs Bancroft
I am delighted to be your child’s Year 6 teacher this academic year and feel truly privileged to guide them through this important and exciting final year at St John Vianney. It is a time of growth, challenge, and celebration, and I am committed to making it a memorable and enriching experience for every child.
After what was an exceptional year last year—marked by strong relationships, meaningful experiences, and outstanding progress—I am thrilled to be returning to Year 6 and continuing to lead Years 5 and 6. I look forward to supporting our upper Key Stage 2 pupils as they prepare for the transition to secondary school, helping them develop the confidence and skills they need to thrive.
Class 6B will be supported by Miss Harrison, now in her second year at St John Vianney. Her gentle and nurturing approach will help foster a positive classroom environment where every child feels valued, motivated, and ready to embrace new challenges. Our wider team also includes Mrs Manning, Miss Talbot, Mrs Thompson and Mrs Connor—each bringing a wealth of knowledge, experience, and dedication to our school community. Together, we form a passionate and hard-working team, committed to ensuring that every child receives the support and inspiration they need to flourish.
Having proudly served at St John Vianney for 21 years—16 of those as a class teacher—I bring a wealth of experience across both Key Stage 1 and 2. SJV holds a special place in my heart, not only as a staff member but also as a former pupil. It is especially meaningful that my daughters, are part of the SJV community too. As the English Lead, I am passionate about cultivating a love of language and empowering children with strong communication skills. I believe deeply in the value of oracy to enhance critical thinking, collaboration, and articulate self-expression—skills that will serve them well throughout their education and beyond. Our classroom will be a space where curiosity is encouraged, ideas are explored, and every child is supported in discovering their unique strengths.
At the core of my teaching philosophy is the importance of building strong relationships. By working in close partnership with you, I aim to support your child in all aspects of school life, helping them reach their full potential. Year 6 offers a wealth of opportunities, and together, we will ensure it is a year to remember.
I look forward to the journey ahead and to celebrating the many achievements to come.
Mrs Manning
I am thrilled to be your child’s teacher as they begin their final year at SJV! Year 6 is a truly special time—full of opportunities for growth, leadership, and preparation for the exciting transition to secondary school. Having worked at SJV for six years and now entering my second year teaching Year 6, I feel incredibly privileged to guide your child through this important stage of their learning journey.
Over the years, I’ve fallen in love with teaching in Key Stage 2. The curiosity, independence, and energy that children bring to the classroom at this stage make it a joy to teach. As Maths Lead, I’m especially passionate about helping children develop a deep understanding and love for mathematics. I believe every child can succeed in maths, and I’m committed to making it engaging, accessible, and empowering for all learners.
This year, our class will also be supported by Mrs. Thompson, whose warmth and wealth of experience working with children will help create a nurturing and motivating environment. Together, we’ll ensure that every child feels valued and encouraged to achieve their very best.
Our Year 6 curriculum is designed to challenge and inspire. We’ll be fostering critical thinking, resilience, and a sense of responsibility, while encouraging children to take ownership of their learning and strive for excellence across all subjects. Our classroom will be a space where creativity, curiosity, and confidence flourish.
Building strong relationships is at the heart of my teaching, and I’m excited to work in partnership with you to make this final year at SJV a memorable and successful one for your child. Let’s make it a year to celebrate!
