Class RC – Miss Cocker
Welcome to SJV Early Years – I am so glad you chose us as your child’s first educators on her/his school journey! I am the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Team Leader and class teacher for Class RC. I am also EYFS Phonics & Early Reading Lead and RE Subject Lead.
I am privileged to have been a teacher for over two decades at a school as delightful as SJV and am genuinely excited to build a partnership with you as we work together to help your child grow and flourish. I am full of energy and enthusiasm and there is never a dull moment in the SJV Early Years Setting!
During my time at St John Vianney, I have worked in most of the year groups across the primary age range and have also been a Team Leader in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Aside from this, I have four children of my own; 3 daughters at high school and a son who is 5 years old. I can relate to how you are all feeling as a parent and fully understand the highs and lows of being a mum of young children – never hesitate to share your worries/concerns with me, I am always happy to help!
I am very approachable and I am sure that I can allay any of your fears or worries, as I will probably have experienced them too! I like to take the time to get to know all our SJV families, as it is so important to me that we are both on the same wavelength when it comes to giving your child the very best start in their education, which is always centred around what makes your child ‘tick’. I make it my mission to get inside your child’s world so they feel happy and secure; before any learning can take place, your child must trust and like us first.
I’m absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to share so many exciting new experiences with your child in a classroom filled with fun, curiosity, and meaningful learning. Teaching in the Early Years is my passion, and I feel truly privileged to be part of this special chapter in your child’s life; 4-year-olds are such a joy to be around! Thank you for choosing SJV—you’ve made a fantastic choice!
Class RG – Mrs Greaves
I am delighted to be your child’s reception class teacher as they start their exciting new journey at St John Vianney Catholic Primary School. This is my second year of teaching here and I am excited to share in your child’s learning and growth.
I am truly passionate about nurturing, supporting and caring for your children and developing them in a positive, safe and inclusive environment. We will learn through play, creativity, imagination and curiosity. I pride myself on being an open communicator who builds strong and positive relationships with the children in my classroom, which is a safe space for all. I believe this will enable children to thrive and be confident to fully express themselves, using their own voice to convey their thoughts, feelings and opinions. I also look forward to working alongside you to ensure these relationships are kept strong and that your child is fulfilled in all aspects of school life.
Outside of the classroom, I am a mum to my two daughters and an avid musicals fan! I love to sing, dance and act as well as spending days on the beach or having a picnic with my family. I also absolutely love to bake! I can’t wait for this exciting year ahead and making a lasting impression on your child’s journey.
Early Years Curriculum
At SJV, we deliver a rich and engaging Early Years curriculum that is fully child-centred, placing each child’s interests, needs and development at the heart of everything we do. Our continuous themes—such as “Me and My…”—run throughout the year and are carefully designed to grow with the children, supporting their progress in communication, understanding and self-awareness. We follow a mastery approach in maths, embracing the philosophy of “go slow to go fast”, which allows children to build deep, secure knowledge before moving on. Our phonics teaching uses the Read Write Inc. (RWI) programme, with children taught in ability groups to ensure targeted learning and rapid progress. In Religious Education, we follow a series of branches that reflect the journey of the liturgical year, helping children connect with faith and values in a meaningful way. These approaches nurtures confident, curious learners who are well-prepared for the next stage of their education.
