This is one of the seven Sacraments that we can receive as Catholics. It is more widely known as 'Confession'. This year, our Year 3 and Year 4 children are making this sacrament for the very first time. The children have completed this Sacramental programme and have attended some sessions at school and others with the Catechists at church, following Sunday mass. They have learnt all about repairing their relationship with God. They know that when they are sorry, they can ask for forgiveness and 'make things right'.
This is another of the seven Sacraments and is also known as Holy Communion. Now the Year 3 and year 4 children have completed Reconciliation, they are about to embark on their understanding of the Eucharist. They will learn that when they receive the bread and wine, this is them receiving the body and blood of Christ. The children will make their First Holy Communion on Sundays at the end of April and beginning of May.
For the first time this year, we are now offering children in Year 6 the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Children will partake in a programme of study that will be a combination of sessions both in school and at church in order to confirm their faith. In this Sacrament, we strenghten our relationship with God through the Holy Spirit, as we build upon what began in Baptism and what was nourished in the Eucharist. It completes the process of initiation into the Catholic community.
