Year 4

Class 4L:

Welcome to a new and exciting year ahead at St John Vianney Catholic Primary School. It is a privilege to be your child’s Year 4 class teacher, and I am sure this school year will be filled with excitement, laughter and of course, lots and lots of learning! This is my 14th year here at St John Vianney and I feel so proud to be part of such a wonderful community. I have experience teaching in Year groups 2-6, including teaching for several years in Year 4 pre-COVID. From my experience, Year 4 is definitely the best year group to be in so I’m really happy to be teaching here again! I look forward to meeting each of you throughout the year and working together as a team to provide the best support which helps your child to continue their growth and journey enabling them to be the best person that God created them to be.

I am committed to building relationships with each child and encouraging positive relationships within our classroom, showing kindness, compassion and respect to one another. I am passionate about hands on and practical learning, which I feel benefits the children across curriculum subjects and I will strive to ensure they enjoy coming to school each day.

4L will also be joined by the wonderful Mrs Bergman-Duncan who is also committed to supporting your children and providing the extra support needed to stretch and challenge learning as we progress through the year. Our classroom will be a safe space for children to voice their opinions, share ideas and collaborate in team discussion, which is a fundamental life skill and will aid them in their future endeavours. Our classroom is a place where mistakes are made, recognised and we will celebrate learning from these mistakes together, as this is all part of the complicated process of learning.

Outside of school, I am happily married and blessed with 3 children. As a family we enjoy swimming, cycling and going for walks with our puppy Luna. I am quite sporty and play cricket for my local team. I also enjoy reading and listening to a wide range of music genres.

And just like that we are about to embark on another exciting school year! I am looking forward to being your child’s teacher in Year 4. This year, 4M will be supported by the lovely Miss Baxter who has valuable experience working with this age group. Her caring and supportive nature will help to develop the children’s confidence during their time in our care. She will provide the appropriate support and challenge to the children this year.

I have worked at St John Vianney as a teacher for approximately 13 years. I have previously worked in Year 2 and Year 3 and have spent the last 3 years teaching Y5. Outside of school, I enjoy creative endeavours such as crocheting and drawing and as the school’s art lead, try to promote the love of art and creativity across school.

This is my first year teaching in Year 4, so this will be a new adventure for the children and for myself, too! I am committed to developing good relationships with the children in my care during the new academic year. I aim to provide a safe place where children are able to show kindness, empathy and respect to each other.

Our Year 4 classroom will be a place where we always raise the question ‘why?’ and we will be able to develop our talents and skills as we prepare ourselves for the final years of primary school. Our classroom will be a place where mistakes will be made, but confidence will be developed. Children will understand that making mistakes is all part of the learning process. It will be a safe place for children to voice their opinions and share ideas, working collaboratively as much as possible. I will be your child’s support within the classroom this year, strengthening the skills that they have started to use in previous years and preparing them for Year 5.  I am aware that St John Vianney is a wonderful community and I look forward to meeting each of you this year and working together as a team to provide the best support for your child. Year 4, this year will be very exciting, and it will be a journey of growth for us all! I am sure we will have a year filled with lots of fun whilst developing our knowledge of the world around us and learning lots of vital skills!
