Year 2

In Year 2, children continue to grow in independence, confidence, and faith as they explore new learning experiences in a supportive and joyful environment rooted in love and respect.

Welcome to Year 2

2L

Welcome to a new and exciting school year at St John Vianney Catholic Primary School. I’m delighted to be your child’s Year 2 class teacher and I am really looking forward to beginning this new school year and journey of learning and growth together. I live in a lovely village called Grimsargh, with my wife and three children, Martha age 7, Solomon age 5 and Esther age 2. We love to enjoy country walks, swimming and seeing our friends and family. I have spent my entire teaching career at SJV, having started n 2011. I love teaching Year 2 as it’s great to see each child beginning to develop their independence and confidence in their learning. This year your child will be supported by the wonderful Miss Stephenson as our classroom teaching assistant. She will work closely with the children each day helping to develop their skills and confidence both in the classroom and on the playground. This year will be my 13th year of teaching here at St John Vianney. Over these years I have gained valuable experience teaching across Key Stage 1 and 2. I have a passion for developing children and helping them on their learning journey. I am dedicated to ensure that all learners are cared for and nurtured to enable them to be the best person that God created them to be. In addition, I firmly believe that children will thrive in a classroom where the attitude to learning is positive, inclusive and collaborative. I believe strongly that children should be given the opportunity to voice their thoughts and feelings and be comfortable to share, communicate and learn with their peers. Within this ideal comes the key importance of building positive relationships. This is fundamental in enabling growth and progression for everyone. I will work alongside you to help ensure relationships are strong and this will help all children to develop in all aspects of their school life.

At St John Vianney, we believe everything we do is for the greater glory of God and through Jesus we seek to grow as a caring Catholic community in faith and love; knowledge and understanding; aspiration and independence.

2H

A welcome message from Mr Horton…

Welcome to 2H!! I am looking forward to teaching your children, along with Mrs Bergman-Duncan and Miss Smith, in what I am sure will be a fun, exciting and brilliant learning journey for your child.   I want to make the class a safe and loving environment for every child, where they will show and receive friendship, kindness and support.  In year 2, we take your child on a challenging and inspiring journey, getting them ready for the juniors next year.  I want the children to be inspired and learn from me, but also from each other, encouraging them to ask questions and explore their learning.  All my three children are now at college or university, but when they went to school every morning, I used to say to them ‘Be good, learn loads and have fun’ and that is the mantra I want for my class, and I know your children will. As mentioned, I am a dad of three and aside from my family my passions are Manchester United, golf, cricket and music. I know your child will have a great year, but if there is anything you need to talk about, please get in touch.

At St John Vianney we believe everything we do is for the greater glory of God and through Jesus we seek to grow as a caring Catholic community in faith and love; knowledge and understanding; aspiration and independence.
