Nursery children will take part in activities which focus on three Prime Areas and four Specific Areas. These are:
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Communication and language
- Physical development
- Expressive arts and design
- Understanding the world
At the start of each new Theme we send home a flyer to parents about the topic we will be covering. It gives ideas of things to do at home, things to make and say and useful websites to go on with games to play.
We try to choose topics that the children are already interested. For example, last term the children were pretending to be each other’s dogs, so we created a theme around ‘Pets and Vets.’ In the first half term we will be making sure all our new children settle in happily and enjoy coming to Nursery. We will be looking at themes based around Ourselves and Our Families, before moving on to other topics based on the children's interests.
We always bring maths, creative work and literacy into every topic, so there are always a variety of skills being practised.
We also link our topics to traditional stories, songs and rhymes as much as possible. The home flyer will tell you which ones we are currently practising. However, singing ANY rhymes or songs at home is great!
We use an online resource called Tapestry. You can log on at home and view photographs of your child at nursery and assessments that have been made.
We also use Twitter - just search for @mrscouzins on Twitter to follow us!
Some useful apps for you to use are:
- Hairy Letters
- Letter School
- Sorting 1 and 2
- Doodle Buddy
If you need to know anything else then please just ask, we are here to help.
Nursery Curriculum Documents
We really enjoyed pyjama day today. We read lots of our favourite stories and were nice and snug in our pyjamas. We even had our favourite cuddly toys. Mrs Willingham read us a book from when she was younger too. She used to get her mummy and daddy to read it to her every night. It's 36 years old! We love sharing stories and it is great because we are learning lots of letters and some of us are beginning to read too.
