Welcome to Reception.

In RC we are very lucky to have Mrs Bainbridge working with us and in RM we have the fantastic Miss Glover and Mrs Drozdek. This term we are excited to start our first topic 'All About Me.' We will be talking about our own families and homes and comparing them to others. We will also be looking at different types of homes such as castles and caravans. We will be painting pictures of our houses using different shapes and display these in our Shared Area - be sure to take a look! We will be painting self-portraits and thinking about our similarities and differences.

This half term, we will start our Read, Write, Inc. sessions where we learn sounds and try to blend them together to read words. You will be invited to a workshop which will explain Read, Write, Inc. and we will provide you with strategies to help your child learn to read at home. More information regarding this workshop will follow.

Your child will start to bring home reading books this half term and we ask that you spend 5 minutes per night reading with your child. Your child will also get a library book which will need to be returned to school every Monday.

Every Friday, one child from each class will get to take home the Class Mascot 'Bertie Bear' for the weekend! Please fill in the book in diary format and return to school on the following Monday so that we can share your adventures with the rest of the class. We also award one child from each class as the 'Good Samaritan' and have a 'Talent' of the week too - certificates will be displayed in our Shared Area and the winner will sit on the throne in class.

We look forward to working with you and your child during their first year at school. If you have any queries or questions we are always available to talk to - just pop in and see us. Don't forget to give us your email address for Tapestry so that you can see all the exciting things your child is doing.

Please ensure your every item of your child's clothing and belongings are named.
