Welcome to Year 4 at St John Vianney Catholic Primary School! We are so excited to be starting a new school year! Your child will be sent home with a fiction and a non-fiction reading book to read throughout the week. Please try and read daily with your child and sign their reading records. We will also be focusing on our timetables throughout the year, as by the end of year 4 every child should know their tables up to 12x12! We will send a times table card home so they can practice as much as they like!

We are beginning our Autumn Term with three weeks of Roald Dahl inspired Literacy work, based on ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’. As well as reading the book as a class, we will be writing poems and diary extracts from the perspective of George.
The rest of the half term will be Literacy work linking with our Curriculum topic ‘Under Attack’. We will be travelling back two thousand years to the Roman Empire and creating pieces of fiction and non-fiction writing based on our knowledge of the Romans!
We begin our school year with place value in maths, focusing on negative numbers, addition and subtraction and shape. We have a huge focus on times tables throughout the year and will be working on these in daily challenges and games!
This half term, our PE lessons will take place on Wednesdays and Friday. We are lucky enough to have a sports coach from Premier Sport who will be teaching us multi skills for this half term.
Our topic this half term is UNDER ATTACK! It is all about how the Romans lived and how they conquered Britain! We will learn about the war between Romans and Celts and how the Roman army became the strongest in the world!
